As part of the rigorous training programme at the Stud, Leanne and her team ride all our young endurance horses in competition to build them up slowly to become endurance champions. They participate in numerous events during the year both nationally and internationally, representing the Welbech Arabian Stud.

2011 South African International Challenge
Leanne Wels & Peter Meikle competed at the SAIC (7th April 2011) representing both The Welbech Arabian Stud & The Eastern Cape Team (who won the event). 2 other riders from Welbech were chosen for the EP No Weight Team. Welbech Silver Charlotte, competing in her 1st ever 120km event came 4th young rider !
2011 Blakeridge Endurance Ride
Leanne Wels competed at the Blakeridge Ride (13th August) representing The Welbech Arabian Stud and won her senior category 80km ride on Izra Spiderman in a very fast time of 3hrs 53mins !! Peter Meikle riding Phariz at the same event came 8th also with a very good time of 4hrs 22 mins. Note: The winning time of this ride last year was 5hrs 30mins.
Welbech Stud excels at the Schanskraal FEI Ride
Izra Spiderman ridden by Leanne Wels won the 120 km** Light Weight in a time of 6hrs 17min - also winning the Eastern Cape Light Weight Championship for 2011.
Welbech Shaheer ridden by Peter Meikle came 4th Standard Weight in the 120km ** in a time of 7hrs 26min. This was Welbech Shaheer's first 120km event. They also won the Eastern Cape Standard Weight Championship for 2011.
Welbech Shareefa ridden by Jenna Masterson came 2nd Young Rider in the 120km ** in a time of 6hrs 49min. This was Welbech Shareefa's 2nd 120km event.
All three horses achieved excellent results and looked in top form afterwards. We look forward to their achievements in 2012.
New landscaped paddocks at Welbech
We have recently completed the installation of 3.6km of post and rail fencing at The Stud to create 5 hectares of paddocks, a 60m showing arena and covered Welbech Grandstand. The landscaping work is still ongoing.
