As part of the rigorous training programme at the Welbech Stud, Leanne Wels and her endurance team ride all our young endurance horses in competition to build them up slowly to become endurance champions. The Welbech Endurance Team participate in numerous events during the year both nationally and internationally.

Leanne Wels won the award for the 160km Senior Eastern Cape Champion 2017 on her horse Shaprisure Dancer who also won Eastern Cape Horse of the Year 2017 !! (see photo on right) 

During 2018 Leanne and her horses also had some notable successes: Welbech Jamal won the FEI *** 160km ride at Lormar during October in a record time for the course of 8hrs 40mins. A month before in September he also won the FEI ** 120km race at Tip of africa.

In his first competitive race, Welbech Desert Raptor came 25th out of 212 starters in the 100km Seeh Al Salam endurance Challenge in Dubai on 27th October in a very fast time averaging 22.9km/h.

This year (2019) Welbech Quick Silver won his first 80km race at the Battle of the Youngsters Ride on 26th January in a time of 4hrs 19mins. He then won the 120km race at Boshof on 16th February in a time of 7hrs 19mins and achieved the Best Condition Horse award at both events !  






Our landscaping programme continues

Since the start of our plan in 2010 we have installed new landscaped fenced and gated paddocks with some 5km of post and rail fencing, a 60m showing arena together with a covered Welbech viewing Grandstand and a spacious tack room. The landscaping programme is ongoing.
