Leanne
has handpicked all the breeding stock of Welbech Arabian
Stud to breed the best endurance horses, focusing on
stamina and strength. She rides all our young
endurance horses in competition to build them up slowly
to become endurance champions.
National Events during 2009:
During 2009 Leanne competed in some 12 Endurance
rides across the country, including:-
On Lormar Sharon she rode three 80 km ERASA Rides,
coming 2nd at the Oudtshoorn Ride and 2nd on the
80km F.E.I. Ride at Colesberg.
With Izra Spiderman (still a novice) she rode two 80
km ERASA Rides.
With Welbech Shaheer (also a novice) she completed a
60 km ERASA Ride and an 80 km ERASA Ride.
In August Leanne came 2nd at the F.E.I. Cookhouse
Ride and at the Schanskraal F.E.I. Endurance Ride in
October rode a South African record time over the
120 km distance of 5hrs 38mins.
Leanne rode the Christiana F.E.I. 120 km ** Ride,
where she was placed 9th.
International Events during 2009:
As captain of the South African Senior Endurance
Team, Leanne led her team to victory against New
Zealand on their home turf at the Kelt Capital Horse
of the Year Competition, one of the largest in the
Southern Hemisphere and when it was time for the
return challenge in South Africa, she once again
captained the successful team, culminating in a
thrilling head to head final dash to the finishing
post.
She also won the award for the best rider over the
two competitions against New Zealand.
